Link text

Keep link text short, avoid using phrases like ‘click here’ or ‘read more’ and don’t use bare URLs (web addresses).

People who use screen readers sometimes scan a list of links to help them navigate a document. When doing this they will only read the link text.

Link text should be descriptive and convey clear and accurate information about the link destination so the user knows what to expect.

For example, ‘How to apply for annual leave’ includes the title of the destination page and is better than ‘Click here’.
